I took this images many years ago at a Primate Orphanage in the Western Cape, South Africa.
The idea was to use it as an protest image against cross-border trade in African wildlife.
When I first saw the image, as it appeared under the red glow of my darkroom light, it however became a commentary on “modern” society! Not only as an outcry against our rape and pillage of our environment, but also our disrespect for humankind as a whole.
The image reminded me of the following quote by Margaret Sanger:
“A free race cannot be born of slave mothers.”
Today and Tomorrow: What will I see?
- Sometimes I see myself in this image. A mirror to my own being!
- Sometimes I am saddened by it!
- Mostly I am just angered by it!!!
WHAT DO YOU SEE?
