According to the Webster’s College Dictionary, biltong can be defines as;

“biltong(n.)ˈbɪlˌtɔŋ, -ˌtɒŋ
(in South Africa) strips of lean meat dried in the open air.”

From this definition only one thing is certain an that is that the authors of the  Webster’s Collage Dictionary never had the pleasure of tasting a piece of traditional South African biltong.
